GROUP PHYSIOTHERAPY SERIES: Postpartum Rehabilitation of the Pelvic Floor and Abdominal Canister

200.00

This is a series of 8 sessions each beginning with a short presentation on anatomy, followed by instruction in Pilates and pelvic floor exercise techniques designed to restore deep core and trunk muscle function. This is ideal for anyone who has experienced deconditioning of the pelvic floor and abdominal canister with pregnancy and delivery (including all delivery methods).

What to expect during each Group Physio Session:

Within the first 10-15 minutes of each session a different topic of abdominal or pelvic floor anatomy will be presented along with common issues that occur with pregnancy and childbirth (e.g., diastasis rectus abdominus, pelvic organ prolapse, episiotomy/tearing, pelvic floor weakness, etc.).  Current treatment strategies will be discussed and all participants will be provided with topic handouts to take notes and keep as a resource.

The remaining 45 minutes of each session will consist of specific pelvic floor and abdominal retraining and conditioning.

The exercises from each session will build into the next, and modifications and progressions will be provided along the way to suit individual needs.

The course has a small participant capacity to allow for close supervision and feedback for everyone involved!

Does this count as a physiotherapy visit for extended medical benefits?

This is not considered a physiotherapy visit since the treatment is provided in a group setting, it is instead considered Group Physiotherapy. Many insurance providers will cover this type of therapy under the umbrella of physiotherapy services. Please check with your insurance provider to determine your eligibility to claim. Receipts from this course can be used on an income tax return as a health service for those who do not have extended health coverage.

Participant requirements:

Please note that for participant safety you must be more than 6 weeks postpartum to join.  Participants who are one or more years postpartum are absolutely welcome to join!
